After Panda update and several later updates, many SEO strategies for building backlinks has became useless or they lost their initial strength. Article directories, for example. Links from them are not closely SEO strong as they were before, although article marketing is still a pretty good way to gain extra traffic and link juice.

After blog networks start to disappear from search engines, and all the links from their sites lost their link juice power, several SEO “masters” got new ideas on how to use similar (automation) tools to improve your SEO and get backlinks.

Recently I was watching one webinar where host said that the best way to build backlinks using automation tools and blog networks that are still around is to build so called “buffer” sites, which are less important for you than your main and money sites, and then build links to that “buffer” sites. Those “buffer” sites could be articles on popular article directories, Squidoo lenses, HubPages, free hosted blogs, etc.

Sounds pretty good and logical, doesn’t it? But while I was watching that webinar and thinking about that “new” strategy, one thought came to my mind: how long it will take Google to recognize this strategy and penalize it? I mean, it was hard for them to get into many blog networks and de-index all sites from those networks, but they managed to do so.

Those blog networks didn’t have any easily noticeable pattern but Google still got it. This “new” strategy with “buffer” sites has a clear pattern right on its forehead! I mean, all links from automated tools and still alive blog networks are pointing out to one particular page. That’s easy to spot and understand that the owner of site the article is pointing out to is using black hat methods for link building.

Yes, in my opinion those and similar SEO methods are pure black hat. My opinion is that very soon Google will start to notice those patterns and lower the value of such a links, which could have a huge impact on importance of article directories, Squdioo lenses and other similar sites.

I know, Squidoo is still hugely popular service and Google loves it, same as HubPages and similar sites, but for how long if we continue to use them with such a black hat methods? That’s the reason why importance of article directories dropped and why the game of internet marketing and online business is changing for good.

I know SEO is important as we all want to rank high on search engines, but it’s also my opinion that we are doing it wrong and harming ourselves more than anybody else. Many money making techniques has become useless because of similar shady methods that were used to increase site’s popularity. Now blog networks are another popular method that’s going down for good. What’s next?

My point is: think normally when trying to do any SEO work. Sooner or later Google will recognize and penalize all the shady and black hat methods we are currently using. It happened before, it will happen again. Therefore, think about those new methods too. Are they good? How long it will take before you will need to search for something new? Is it even worth to invest time and money in something that will get penalized in a near future?

Think about another fact too: online business is not about SEO, it’s about building relationships with your visitors. Yeah, you can get on top spot on Google and make couple thousands of bucks, but sooner or later somebody will beat you up on that top spot and leave you with earning nothing. Why? Because you didn’t built up relationship with your visitors, since you were only concentrated on building black hat backlinks just to get to that top spot on search engines.

Therefore, I think that SEO is a complete bullshit (excuse my language). SEO strategies come and go, and every few months there is a new strategy because the old one is not working anymore. Aren’t you tired of changing your strategies all the time in order to get top spots on search engines? Or, even better question, aren’t you tired of relying on Google for getting traffic and making money?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to rely on anybody in my business. I don’t want to rely on Google for earning my living because Google is not caring about me. Even if I do everything by the book, I’m still not protected from getting penalized or de-indexed.

As a matter of fact, recently one of my sites disappeared from Google’s search results for exact match keyword. Why? I don’t know since I didn’t do any shady techniques to build up traffic or links. You know what I’m talking about: doing tough keyword research, picking some good one long tail keyword, choosing domain name that exactly matches your chosen keyword, writing unique content all the time, watching carefully on your keywords, keyword density, header tags, title tags, meta tags, getting endless number of backlinks while making sure they are high quality ones from authority and high PR sites, and all that other crap.
